ChatGPT Business vs Enterprise: What Each Costs, What Only Enterprise Has, and Which You Need

Most companies under 200 people are well served by ChatGPT Business. It has the business data terms, single sign-on and a published price. Enterprise adds the controls a large organisation or a strict security team asks for: user provisioning from your directory, audit logs, your own retention period, data residency in Europe and per-role control over apps.

Below: what each plan costs and includes, the five things only Enterprise has, the setting on Business most companies miss, and how to decide in ten minutes. Facts from OpenAI’s own help centre and pricing, checked on 23 October 2026.

The five things only Enterprise has

  • SCIM provisioning. Users are created and removed automatically from your directory. On Business, an admin adds and removes people.
  • Audit logs through the Compliance API, so your security tools can read what happened in the workspace.
  • Your own retention period for chats, instead of keeping them until someone deletes them.
  • Data residency in Europe, included on Enterprise and still being rolled out on Business.
  • Per-role control over apps, so finance can reach one set of systems and sales another.

If none of these is a requirement from your security team or your customers, Business gives you what matters most: your company owns the terms, OpenAI does not train on your data, and you have a data processing agreement. More in is ChatGPT safe for confidential information.

The setting on Business most companies miss

On Business, apps such as Google Drive and SharePoint are switched on by default, and an admin can only turn each one on or off for the whole workspace. Everyone who connects Google Drive can then use it in ChatGPT, whatever their role.

Per-group control without Enterprise

The usual reason a company under 200 people looks at Enterprise is not SCIM. It is control over which systems the AI reaches, for whom. With Deployed OS you get that on Business: user groups decide who may read or change what in each system, every person signs in with their own login and every call is logged. The same rules apply in Claude, so a company that runs both tools keeps one set.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between ChatGPT Business and Enterprise?

Both exclude your data from training by default and support single sign-on. Enterprise adds SCIM user provisioning, audit logs through the Compliance API, your own retention period, data stored and processed in Europe, and per-role control over which apps each group may use. Business has a published price; Enterprise is quoted per company.

How much does ChatGPT Business cost?

According to OpenAI’s help centre in October 2026, a Standard seat costs $20 per user a month on an annual plan or $25 monthly, and a Premium seat $100 or $125, from two seats and up to 200 per subscription. Prices are in US dollars before tax and vary by country. Enterprise has no published price.

Do we need ChatGPT Enterprise?

Usually not under 200 people. Enterprise is the right call if more than 200 people will use ChatGPT, if data must be stored and processed in Europe today, or if your security team requires SCIM and audit logs for every system. Otherwise Business gives you the business terms, no training on your data and a data processing agreement.

Does ChatGPT Business train on your data?

No. ChatGPT Business, formerly ChatGPT Team, does not use your workspace’s data for training by default. Neither does Enterprise.
