Claude Team vs Enterprise: Why Most Companies Under 150 People Don’t Need Enterprise
Most companies under 150 people do not need Claude Enterprise. The Team plan has the usage built into the seat. Enterprise does not: the seat only buys access, and every message is billed on top at API rates. For a team that uses Claude every day, that is the difference between a fixed monthly bill and one that grows with every task.
Below: what each plan costs today, why the usage line matters more than the seat price, when Enterprise really is the right call, and how to get the controls companies usually buy Enterprise for while staying on Team.
What Team and Enterprise cost
From Anthropic’s pricing page, checked on 23 October 2026, in US dollars before tax:
| Team | Enterprise | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it is for | 2 to 150 people | From 20 people, no upper limit |
| Seat price | Standard: $20 a month on an annual plan, $25 monthly. Premium: $100 annual, $125 monthly | $20 a month, annual only |
| Usage | Included in the seat, up to the seat’s limit | Billed on top, at API rates |
| Extra | Up to $500 a month in pooled API credits | None included |
| Commitment | Monthly or annual | Annual, at least 20 seats |
On paper the seats look the same: $20 a month. They are not the same product. On Team, $20 buys Claude with a generous allowance. On Enterprise, $20 buys the door, and what people do once they are inside is metered.
The line that decides it: usage
Usage is what Claude actually does: every question, every document it reads, every draft it writes, every task it runs in Cowork or Claude Code. On Team, all of that is part of the seat until a person reaches their limit. Limits are per person, so one heavy user never eats into a colleague’s allowance, and the few who need more get a Premium seat.
On Enterprise, the same work is billed token by token at API rates. Long documents, research and agents that work for minutes at a time are exactly the tasks that make AI worth having, and they are also the ones that use the most tokens. The better your team gets at using Claude, the bigger the Enterprise bill.
Team is a fixed price with the usage included. Enterprise is a low entry price with a meter running. For most companies under 150 people, the fixed price is worth far more.
The same team on both plans
Take a company of 60 people that uses Claude every day: 55 on ordinary work, five who live in it.
| Team (annual) | Enterprise | |
|---|---|---|
| 55 people | 55 Standard seats: $1,100 a month, usage included | 55 seats: $1,100 a month, plus their usage |
| 5 heavy users | 5 Premium seats: $500 a month, usage included | 5 seats: $100 a month, plus their usage |
| Every month | $1,600, the same every month | $1,200 plus usage at API rates, different every month |
For the Enterprise column to come out cheaper, the 60 people together would have to use less than $400 of Claude a month: under $7 a person. Someone who uses Claude every day on real work, with long documents, research and the odd agent task, goes past that quickly at API rates. Put in your own numbers below. On Team, the same person costs $20, or $100 on a Premium seat, however much of their allowance they use. You can check the per-token rates on the same pricing page.
Team or Enterprise for your company
- Team, usage included
- $1,600 a month
- Enterprise seats, before usage
- $1,200 a month
Enterprise costs more than Team as soon as your people use more than $6.67 of Claude a person a month at API rates. Enterprise is cheaper only if usage stays below that.

When Enterprise is the right call
Enterprise is worth it when you need one of the things only it has:
- More than 150 people on Claude. Team stops at 150 seats. Above that, Enterprise is the plan Anthropic offers.
- Health data under HIPAA, or a compliance API that feeds Claude activity into your own compliance tools.
- Your own data retention rules for chats and files inside Claude.
- User provisioning from your directory (SCIM) and Claude’s own audit logs, because your security team requires them for every system.
If none of those apply, Team already gives you single sign-on with your company account, usage analytics, spend caps per person and for the whole organisation, and business data terms under which Anthropic does not train on your content. That last point is the one most companies worry about, and Team covers it. More on that in is Claude safe for confidential information.
Enterprise controls without Enterprise
When companies under 150 people ask us about Enterprise, the reason is rarely HIPAA. It is control: who can reach which systems through Claude, what the AI fetched from them, and making sure everyone works the same way. That is the part Deployed OS adds on top of Team.
| What you want | Enterprise alone | Team with Deployed OS |
|---|---|---|
| Decide who reaches which systems through the AI | Admin settings for connectors | User groups decide who may read or edit in each system, and each person signs in with their own login |
| A log of what the AI did in your systems | Claude’s audit logs | Every call into your systems logged, with security logs you can filter and export |
| Shared ways of working and company rules | Shared projects | Company skills and guardrails that apply to everyone, in Claude and ChatGPT |
| Your own systems, not only the big ones | The connectors Anthropic offers | Ready connectors for Fortnox, Visma, HubSpot, Microsoft 365 and more, and we build the ones you are missing |
| The usage bill | API rates on top of the seat | Included in the Team seat |
In short: the governance most companies buy Enterprise for, at the price of Team. See how the connectors work, or read what an MCP gateway is if the term is new.

Most companies we meet land on Team, with Premium seats for the handful who use Claude all day. Once you have chosen, our Claude Team plan guide has the thirty-day plan for getting people to actually use it. The same choice for ChatGPT is in ChatGPT Business vs Enterprise.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Claude Team and Claude Enterprise?
Team is for 2 to 150 people and includes usage in the seat: $20 a month for a Standard seat on an annual plan, $100 for a Premium seat with five times the usage. Enterprise starts at 20 seats, is annual only and costs $20 a seat plus all usage billed on top at API rates. Enterprise adds SCIM provisioning, audit logs, custom data retention, a compliance API and a HIPAA-ready offering. Both have single sign-on, usage analytics, spend caps and business data terms without training on your content. Prices from Anthropic’s pricing page, 23 October 2026.
How much does Claude Enterprise cost?
According to Anthropic’s pricing page on 23 October 2026, Claude Enterprise costs $20 per seat per month, billed annually, with a minimum of 20 seats, plus usage at API rates. The seat buys access only, so the total depends on how much each person uses Claude. Heavy use of long documents, research and agents costs the most.
Do we need Claude Enterprise?
Usually not under 150 people. Enterprise is the right call if more than 150 people will use Claude, if you handle health data under HIPAA or need a compliance API, if you need custom data retention, or if your security team requires SCIM provisioning and Claude’s own audit logs. Otherwise Team already gives single sign-on, usage analytics, spend caps and business data terms, with usage included in the seat.
What is the minimum number of seats for Claude Enterprise?
Anthropic’s pricing page lists a minimum of 20 seats for Enterprise, billed annually, as of 23 October 2026. The Team plan runs from 2 to 150 seats, monthly or annually.
Is Claude Team cheaper than Enterprise?
For most companies that use Claude every day, yes. A 60-person company with 55 Standard and 5 Premium seats pays $1,600 a month on an annual Team plan with usage included. On Enterprise the same 60 seats cost $1,200 a month before usage, so Enterprise is only cheaper if the whole company uses less than $400 of Claude a month at API rates, under $7 a person.
Can we get Enterprise controls on the Claude Team plan?
Partly. Team already includes single sign-on, usage analytics and spend caps. What companies usually want on top is control over which systems the AI can reach, a log of what it did there and shared company rules. An MCP gateway such as Deployed OS adds that to Team: user groups decide who may read or edit in each system, every call is logged, and company skills and guardrails apply to everyone. It does not replace Enterprise features inside Claude itself, such as SCIM, custom retention or the compliance API.
