Microsoft Teams MCP: connect Teams to Claude and ChatGPT

Ask Claude or ChatGPT what the project channel agreed on Friday, what Erik said about the budget in your chat or which thread has the final delivery date. The answer comes from Teams, with a link to every message it relies on.

With Deployed OS everyone connects with their own work account. The AI searches and reads the chats and channels that person is in, and it posts only when they ask and have confirmed where and the exact text.

In practice

What your team can do with Microsoft Teams in Claude and ChatGPT

Project management

Status without reading every channel

Read the latest messages in each project channel and get one summary: what was decided, what is blocked and who is waiting on whom.
Management

Find what was agreed

Search chats and channels for the decision on the supplier or the new start date, with who said it and when.
Sales

The internal picture of a customer

Before the meeting, search Teams for what colleagues wrote about the customer this month. Afterwards, post a short update in the account channel.
Operations

Post the change where it is read

Write the notice in the chat, check it, and the AI posts it in the right channel or as a reply in the thread, as you.
Examples

Ask it like this

  • “What did the Atlas project channel decide on Friday? Link the messages.”

  • “Search my Teams chats for what Erik said about the Q4 budget.”

  • “List the channels in the Sales team and tell me which one is for the Contoso account.”

  • “Summarise the last 20 messages in my chat with the design agency.”

  • “Find the thread where we set the delivery date for order 3318 and read the replies.”

  • “Reply in the delivery date thread: Confirmed, the trucks leave Tuesday at 07:00.”

The connector

What the Microsoft Teams MCP connector does today

  • Readsteams_search_messages

Searches your chat and channel messages by words, as you: who wrote each match, when, a snippet and where it is.

  • Readsteams_list_conversations

Lists your chats with topic, people and last activity, or the channels of up to 20 teams you belong to.

  • Readsteams_read_messages

Reads the latest messages in a chat, a channel or one channel thread, oldest first. Long messages are cut at 2,000 characters.

  • Writesteams_post_message

Posts a plain-text message as you to a chat, a channel or a channel thread, once you have confirmed where and the exact text. Company guardrails apply.

Security

Who sees what

Reads chats and channels, posts as you
The connector searches and reads your chats and the channels of the teams you belong to. It can post a plain-text message to a chat, channel or thread as you, and only for people with Edit access.
Each person’s own work account
Everyone connects their own Microsoft work account, so the AI sees the chats and teams that person is in. A chat you are not part of is never read.
You choose who gets it
Admins decide which groups get the Teams connector, and which of those may post. Everyone else never sees it.
Every call logged
Who asked, which connector, when. Deployed OS shows reads and writes per connector and per person, and the log can be exported.
Setup

Set up the Microsoft Teams connector in three steps

01
An admin registers one single-tenant app in Microsoft Entra ID with the redirect URLs and Microsoft Graph permissions Deployed OS gives you, and grants admin consent. The same app serves Outlook, OneDrive and SharePoint. Your company owns it, not us.
02
The admin adds the Directory (tenant) ID, the Application (client) ID and the client secret to Deployed OS, and chooses which groups get Teams.
03
Each person connects with their own work account. From then on they just ask.

Microsoft Teams’s own MCP server or Deployed OS?

Microsoft publishes a Teams MCP server of its own as part of Work IQ, in preview. It is built for agents in Copilot Studio and Microsoft Agent 365, and reads and writes chats, channels and messages. For a team building agents on Microsoft’s own platform, it is the natural choice.

Deployed OS is for the whole company and the assistants people already use. Teams is one connection next to your CRM and other tools, each person is on their own work account, admins choose which groups get Teams and who may post, and every call is logged. The same connection works in Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot, next to your company’s skills and guardrails.

Questions

Microsoft Teams MCP: common questions

Yes. Microsoft publishes one as part of Work IQ, in preview, for agents built in Copilot Studio and Agent 365. Deployed OS gives the whole company one Teams connection in Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot, with each person’s own account, access per group and a log of every call.

Yes, a plain-text message as you, to a chat, a channel or a reply in a channel thread, and only after you have confirmed where and the exact text. Only groups with Edit access can post, and company guardrails apply. It cannot edit or delete messages or start new chats. If you need more, we can extend it for you.

Yes. Reading Teams channels needs the ChannelMessage.Read.All permission, which only an administrator can consent to for the whole company. Without it nobody can connect Teams. Granting consent for every permission also spares each person the consent prompt.

Yes. One app registration in your Entra ID serves Teams, Outlook Mail, Outlook Calendar, OneDrive and SharePoint. You register it once and choose per connector which groups get what.

Yes. Deployed OS is your company’s own MCP, so the same Teams connection works in Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot. People keep the assistant they prefer.

It depends on the size of your team. Get in touch and we will walk you through it.
