Asana MCP: connect Asana to Claude and ChatGPT

Ask Claude or ChatGPT what’s due for you this week, what’s still open in the Website relaunch project, or what the latest comments on a task say. The answer comes from Asana, with a link to every task it relied on.

With Deployed OS everyone connects their own Asana login. The AI sees the workspaces, projects and tasks that person can see. It can create a task assigned to you, and it never completes, moves or comments on anything.

In practice

What your team can do with Asana in Claude and ChatGPT

Everyone

Your week in one answer

Your open tasks across projects, sorted by due date, before the Monday meeting. Then open the two that matter and read the latest comments.
Project managers

Project status without chasing people

List a project’s open tasks with assignee and due date, spot what’s overdue and get a status update written for the steering group.
Marketing

Find the task, not the thread

Search tasks by words in name and description: the brief for the October campaign, the request from legal, the bug someone logged last week.
Team leads

From meeting to task list

After a call, turn what you agreed into tasks for yourself, with due dates and the right project. You confirm the text first, and nobody else is assigned.
Examples

Ask it like this

  • “What tasks are due for me in Asana this week?”

  • “List the open tasks in the Website relaunch project, with assignee and due date.”

  • “Which projects in our workspace are due before the end of October?”

  • “Find the task about the partner newsletter and summarise the latest comments.”

  • “Is anyone already working on the onboarding email sequence? Search open tasks.”

  • “Create a task for me: “Send Q4 plan to the board”, due Friday, in the Management project.”

The connector

What the Asana MCP connector does today

  • Readsasana_list_workspaces

List the Asana workspaces and organisations you belong to.

  • Readsasana_list_projects

List the active projects you can see in a workspace, with owner, due date and link.

  • Readsasana_list_tasks

List a project’s tasks, or your own tasks in a workspace, with due date, assignee and link. Open tasks only, unless you ask for completed ones too.

  • Readsasana_search_tasks

Search the tasks you can see by words in their name or description, most recently changed first, optionally only your own or only open or completed ones. Without a paid Asana plan, only task names are matched.

  • Readsasana_get_task

Read one task: description, due date, assignee, projects, parent task, tags, number of subtasks, latest comments and link.

  • Writesasana_create_task

Create a task assigned to you, with an optional description, due date and project. Nobody else is assigned or added as a follower; the project’s own notifications still apply.

Security

Who sees what

Reads, plus your own tasks
The connector lists workspaces, projects and tasks, searches tasks and reads a task with its description, tags, subtask count and latest comments. Its only write is a new task assigned to you. It never completes, moves, reassigns or comments on a task.
Each person’s own Asana
Everyone connects their own Asana login, so the AI sees what that person sees. A private project stays private through the AI too.
You choose who gets it
Admins decide which groups get the Asana connector, and which of them may create tasks. Everyone else never sees it.
Every call logged
Every lookup and every new task is logged: who, which connector, when. Deployed OS shows reads and writes per connector and per person, and the log can be exported. Access is revoked centrally, including the day someone leaves.
Setup

Set up the Asana connector in three steps

01
An admin creates an app in the Asana developer console, adds the redirect URL and the permission scopes we list, and makes it available to your company’s workspace. Your company owns the app, not us.
02
The admin adds the app’s Client ID and Client secret to Deployed OS and chooses which groups get Asana.
03
Each person connects their own Asana login once, and their tasks are there in the next chat.

Asana’s own MCP server or Deployed OS?

Asana hosts its own MCP server, now generally available in its second version. It is a good fit for one person or a developer connecting Asana to their own assistant.

Deployed OS is built for the whole company. One connection for Asana and your other tools, each person’s own login, admins choosing which groups get what, and a log of every call. The same connection works in Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot, next to your company’s skills and guardrails.

Questions

Asana MCP: common questions

Yes. Asana hosts its own MCP server, which one person can connect to their assistant. Deployed OS gives the whole company one connection for Asana and your other tools, with each person’s own login, access per group and a log of every call.

It can create a task assigned to you, with a description, due date and project, when you ask and confirm the text, if you have Edit access. Nobody else is assigned or added as a follower. It never completes, moves, reassigns or comments on a task. If you want it to do more, we can extend it for you.

Yes. Deployed OS is your company’s own MCP, so one Asana connection works in ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot. Everyone asks about their tasks in the assistant they already use, with their own Asana login.

Full task search, by words in name and description, is part of Asana’s paid plans. In a workspace without it, the AI matches task names instead and tells you the filters were not applied.

Deployed is an EU company and fully GDPR compliant, and you choose where your data is stored, down to the city. Asana tasks are read when someone asks for them.

It depends on the size of your team. Get in touch and we will walk you through it.
