Intercom MCP: connect Intercom to Claude and ChatGPT

Ask Claude or ChatGPT what a customer wrote last week, which open conversations mention a refund, or what a teammate promised in a reply. The answer comes straight from Intercom, with who said what and the internal notes marked.

With Deployed OS every teammate connects their own Intercom login. The AI reads conversations and contacts as them, and the only thing it writes is an internal note. Nothing is ever sent to a customer.

The customer’s own words

Find the conversations that open with export or invoice and get what customers actually asked for, quoted, with links back to Intercom.
Examples

Ask it like this

  • “What did Sara Lind at Nordbyte write to us last week, and what did we reply?”

  • “Which open conversations assigned to me were updated since yesterday?”

  • “Find conversations that mention refund since 1 September and group them by reason.”

  • “Show the contact erik@acme.com: owner, last seen, our custom attributes and the notes teammates wrote.”

  • “List this year’s conversations with ann@nordbyte.se and sum each one up in a line.”

  • “Add a note to the latest Nordbyte conversation: ‘Discount approved by Maria, valid until 31 October.’”

The connector

What the Intercom MCP connector does today

  • Readsintercom_search_conversations

Search conversations, most recently updated first, by single words in the subject or first message, by state, assigned to you, by contact or by update date. Returns subject, state, a preview, who wrote it, tags and link.

  • Readsintercom_get_conversation

Read one conversation: the first message, then the latest replies and notes in order, each with who wrote it (customer, teammate or bot) and internal notes marked. Files come by name and a very long message is cut.

  • Readsintercom_search_contacts

Find contacts, users and leads, by part of a name, an email address, a phone number or an exact external id: name, email, role, last seen, location and link.

  • Readsintercom_get_contact

Read one contact: name, email, phone, role, dates, location, owner, your workspace’s custom attributes and up to ten notes teammates wrote, newest first.

  • Writesintercom_add_note

Add an internal note to a conversation, in your name. Only teammates see it: nothing is sent to the customer, nobody is mentioned, and the conversation is not replied to, closed or assigned.

Security

Who sees what

Read, plus internal notes
The connector searches and reads conversations and contacts, including the notes teammates keep on a contact. It can add an internal note to a conversation, in your name. It never replies, closes, snoozes or assigns, and nothing reaches the customer.
Your own login, your name
Everyone connects their own Intercom login, so the AI reads as that teammate and notes carry their name. Intercom gives an app the same permissions for every teammate, so give the connector to people who may read every conversation.
You choose who gets it
Admins decide which groups at the company get the Intercom connector, and which of them may add notes. Everyone else never sees it.
Every call logged
Who asked, which connector, when. Deployed OS shows reads and writes per connector and per person, and the log can be exported. Access is revoked centrally, including the day someone leaves.
Setup

Set up the Intercom connector in three steps

01
An admin creates an app in Intercom’s Developer Hub, in your own workspace, turns on OAuth with the redirect URL from Deployed OS and ticks the permissions it needs. Your company owns the app.
02
The admin adds the app’s Client ID and Client secret to Deployed OS, plus the region if your workspace is hosted in Europe or Australia, and chooses which groups get Intercom.
03
Each teammate connects with their own Intercom login. From then on they just ask.
Compared

Intercom’s own MCP server or Deployed OS?

Intercom runs its own hosted MCP server, which a teammate connects with their own Intercom login. It is a good fit for one person, or a developer building on Intercom data.

Deployed OS is built for the whole company. One company connection for Intercom and your other tools, each person’s own login, admins choosing which groups get what, and a log of every call. The same connection works in Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot, next to your company’s skills and guardrails.

Questions

Intercom MCP: common questions

Yes. Intercom hosts its own MCP server, which a person connects to their own AI tool. Deployed OS gives the whole team one connection, with each teammate’s own login, access per group and a log of every call.

No. The only thing it writes is an internal note on a conversation, in your name, after you confirm the text, and your company’s guardrails apply. Only teammates see it, nobody is mentioned, and the conversation is not replied to, closed or assigned. If you want it to do more, we can extend it for you.

Yes. Deployed OS is your company’s own MCP, so the same Intercom connection works in Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot. People keep the assistant they prefer.

Intercom’s conversation search looks at the subject and the first message only. Use a few distinctive words, or ask about the customer: the AI finds the contact first and lists their conversations.

Yes. The admin sets the region when adding the app: eu for Europe, au for Australia, empty for the US. Deployed is an EU company and fully GDPR compliant, and you choose where your data is stored, down to the city.

It depends on the size of your team. Get in touch and we will walk you through it.
