SharePoint MCP: connect SharePoint and OneDrive to Claude and ChatGPT
Ask Claude or ChatGPT what the framework agreement says about notice periods, where the project plan for the new office is, or to summarise the Q3 deck on the sales site. The AI searches SharePoint and OneDrive, reads the file and gives you the link.
With Deployed OS everyone connects their own Microsoft 365 work account. The AI finds only the files that person can already open: in their OneDrive, shared with them or on SharePoint sites. Nothing is created or changed.

“Find the onboarding checklist for new consultants and give me the link.”
What the SharePoint MCP connector does today
- Reads
sharepoint_search_filesSearches the OneDrive and SharePoint files you can open, by words in the name or content. Returns name, type, last change, size and a snippet of where the words appear, for up to 25 files.
- Reads
sharepoint_read_fileReads one file as text: Word, PowerPoint and Excel files (.docx, .pptx, .xlsx) up to 10 MB, and text files as they are. Other files, such as PDFs, return their details and link. Long text is cut at 200 KB.
Need it to do more? We extend connectors for the companies that use them.
Who sees what
- Read-only
- The connector searches and reads OneDrive and SharePoint files: Word, PowerPoint, Excel and text files as text, other files by name and link. It cannot upload, edit, share or delete anything.
- Each person’s own rights
- Everyone connects their own Microsoft 365 account, so the AI finds the files that person can open and nothing else. A site only the board can open stays with the board.
- You choose who gets it
- Admins decide which groups at the company can use the SharePoint and OneDrive connector at all. Everyone else never sees it.
- Every call logged
- Who searched, which file was read, when. Deployed OS shows reads per connector and per person, the log can be exported, and access is revoked centrally the day someone leaves.

SharePoint’s own MCP server or Deployed OS?
Microsoft publishes its own MCP servers for SharePoint and OneDrive under Work IQ, in preview. They are part of Microsoft Agent 365 and suit a team building agents on Microsoft’s platform.
Deployed OS is one company connection for SharePoint, OneDrive and the rest of your tools, with each person’s own login, admins choosing which groups get what, and a log of every call. The same connection works in Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot, next to your company’s skills and guardrails.
